Torpedos
We have been iterating on torpedo designs to determine the best design to move forward with.
Through plenty of research, we settled on an ASA 3D-printed torpedo after testing other designs using PLA and performing CFD. To secure the torpedo for launch, we chose a twist lock method that would lock the torpedoes in a fin shaped cavity. Finally, the launch mechanism uses a servo with a 3D printed slip gear that turns a gear on the launcher modules to fire the torpedo.
Results have been very optimistic, with the torpedoes traveling over one meter with minimal drop during pool tests and shooting relatively straight. Next, we plan to make the servo gear more robust due to slippage and creating a tool to make loading the torpedo easier.
